Strange result from cmd ping
Posted by banco, 08-02-2015, 08:37 AM |
Hi everyone. I live Hong Kong. When I ping a website whose domain is .com.hk, the result is around 3~4ms. But when I looked up the domain, it gave me the result that the domain is in the USA. If the server is hosted in the USA, why the ping time is incredibly low?
Thanks

Might help if you post the domain in question, so others can check it out.

You should consider running a tracert. That would give you some insight on where the hops are going. Are you using a proxy service? Maybe CloudFlare? That would change your ping results if you knew the true location of the server.

Hi,
Connection from your region may be filtered for legitimate traffic. You should contact your hosting provider to check the domain status. They can provide more information to you on this.

Can you give the complete domain name to check where its hosted and the location of hosting
As normally 3ms to US from Honkong is not possible unless its some local location in same country

Just because the domain is owned/operated by a US company it does not necessarily follow that the domain is hosted in the US.
