SMTP vs PHP Mail server load

Hello, If a form sends an email through SMTP (from another server), demands more server resources than sending with PHP Mail? Or it is better? Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know this too, but it seems SMTP is more reliable according to the internet at least. Is it worth going with PHP Mail regardless of the tradeoffs if ever it demands less resources?

Hi, Sorry, but your query isn't very clear. I would recommend you to use third party SMTP services as there would be more chances of IP getting blacklisted if your site is on hosted on shared web hosting provider. And if you own a server then there would always be a risk of getting your own IP address blacklisted. Using third parry SMTP services will going to help you in avoiding that. Newton

using smtp is considered as good option as phpmail may lead your IP blacklist with several provider second thing is many public mail service providers do not accept mail coming without authentication or without a good header. they scan the header of mail.

Sure, I got it ;-) But what about the server requirements? Is finally php Mail more light? How can I see from a transactional email if it is came from phpmail or SMTP? Thank you so much
