Of-course php is the best, as php is open-source language that's why totally free of cost and right now, it is the most widely used programming language for web applications across the world.

You can't beat php for simplifying incredibly hard concepts (in my opinion), but other languages that require a lot more work to code can be faster (although I still love me some PHP action)
That aside, I've had a lot of fun coding with C#. Some of the built in function sets don't even make sense, but there's something special about making a windows program work...and watching simple errors lock up an entire os

COBOL is my favorite. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to continue after college.
The programming approach is really different compared with other languages.
Oh my! I really miss this language.

I'll always have a special place in my heart for Object Pascal a la Delphi. But, now a days, since pascal isn't exactly a "modern" language, I primarily use PHP.

I have been doing some research on this same topic. In the business of web programing I have been pointed to php as an instruction language then moving into C#.

Posted by e-hoster, 02-23-2011, 05:37 PM |
I use PHP the most, I love Java but have never used it for anything serious. Did some Prolog a few years back that I enjoyed, completely different from anything I have ever used.

Posted by SyntheticChaos, 02-26-2011, 04:32 PM |
I definitely have to say PHP is my absolute favorite. It is very flexible and seems to be one of the most popular languages offered by hosting providers. I have been working with PHP for the longest time and am learning more and more every day.
|
Posted by DeanHarper, 02-26-2011, 04:52 PM |
I like what I've seen of PHP, but I dont feel that I'm skilled enough to offer professional work in this area yet
I don't find it as easy to work with as HTML/CSS - I don't know if you'd class these as a programming languages but I would say that they are web programming.
|
Posted by bqinternet, 02-26-2011, 07:29 PM |
I do most of my work in PHP. It feels like C++, while adding some convenient features. It also has an extensive library of functions that are available out of the box.
|

PHP, C++, and Java.
|
Posted by AzaraT, 02-27-2011, 03:13 PM |
For web development diffidently php, I did do some asp.net with C# but microsofts IDE is so frustrating, esp using databases!
For software I mostly do Java, great OOP implementation!

PHP is my language of choice.
|
Posted by AdamLeeMiller, 03-01-2011, 01:53 PM |
Im really beginning to enjoy Rails. Yea, the command line structure is a bit old school for web application building but it has a perfect MVC model and its super easy to extend your application further down the line.
Plus, Ruby is super easy to learn.
|
Posted by n3r0x, 03-01-2011, 01:55 PM |
Ansi C for serious applications
C# for small apps (like small crap tools that I almost never use)
PHP for web
Currently reading and testing Assembly (NASM and MASM32)
|
Posted by Techy, 03-01-2011, 02:04 PM |
How do you feel about NASM and MASM32? Is it interesting? What book are you reading?
|
Posted by n3r0x, 03-01-2011, 02:13 PM |
Book: Professional Assembly Language by richard blum
MASM32: Syntax guide available on their website
To be honest I like MASM32 more than NASM for windows, but NASM have compilers for both win and *nix so hard to choose.. Overall i think i would go with NASM compiler..
Assembly as a language is a BITCH.. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it´s structure, never turned down a challenge though so will continue.
|
Posted by Techy, 03-01-2011, 02:14 PM |
Hrm, best of luck to you! Thank you for the information I will look into those books! Let me know how it goes once you've completed the challenge !!!!

Java for desktop, PHP/Javascript for web
|
Posted by Forger, 03-07-2011, 03:25 PM |
Would have to be Python or C#, but it depends on the project. I am forced to use PHP sometimes (A deeply horrible experience when coming from other nicer languages).
|
Posted by Jimbrown123, 03-08-2011, 06:33 AM |
HTML and PHP are very latest languages. so, I like them.

|
Posted by okapy, 03-08-2011, 12:50 PM |
I used to work on C++/Delphi/C#/ASP/JAVA. Now I am working on PHP. From that list PHP is my favorite, Java is my least favorite.

Depends what I'm doing:
Embedded: C/assembly language
Web: PHP
Application development: Java/C (depending on the application in question + platform)

I'll throw in a vote for Python. I have programmed in everything from ASM86 through C, C++, Delphi, C#, ASP, PHP, and Perl... but Python's the nicest language I've ever used.

Not really a programmer in the true essence, write mostly *nix scripts.
I recently switched from Perl to Python for some of the more complex stuff Bash isn't good at, really enjoy the Python syntax.

C# for me... you just can't beat Visual Studio for an IDE and C# just seems to make sense to me. Plus, there is a ton of articles / tutorials / documentation C#.
|
Posted by ShyGuy82, 03-16-2011, 02:53 PM |
I do Java, C# (windows apps and web), some PHP but C# is my favorite. Strongly typed, object oriented, has awesome database tools (LINQ, Entity Framework or straight ADO.NET to connect to ANY RDBMS) and no other IDE can beat Visual Studio IDE.

for Systemdevelopment/Poking away at the Posix-API:
C, off course.
Webapps: PHP
Hacking scripts together: PERL, Bash
and for nice desktopapplications I would use Jave, because i don't speak C# or J#.
