Testing server performance

Does anyone know of any legit scripts that do a kind of "health check" on your server? I'd just like a script (eg. a forum) to be used and while I monitor the server to see how it handles services such as http, mysql etc... Anyone know of anything? I'm not talking about any heavy tests, just to put a mock up shared hosting environment. I might just install a forum (or more) +heavily resourceful addons, and click away!

Do you mean a script that acts like a shared server on your own system, to give some benchmark of how it would run, or do you mean as you're running a site on a shared server, that you want it to let you know how things are running?
