NEWBIE Bashers Hmmmmm
Posted by centrahost, 07-02-2003, 03:43 PM |
When will this be stopped? Any person can just create and ID, login here and just bash away. No name, no nothing. It's ridiculous. Something should be done about it.

Yeah! Disallow the posting of the word "sucks" for those with < 100 posts!!
Seriously though, what could be done about it?
It would be pretty hard to police. Just where do you draw the line and how do you determine what is genuine or not? In all fairness, if somebody has a legitimate complaint they should be able to come here and voice it. I think the community as a whole does a pretty decent job most times of debunking baseless allegations.

It's nothing new. Whether they come to praise or complain, it can be their first post to do it.
Feel free to report any and we will do our best to determine their validity.

It's easy to distinguish between the legit and non legit complaints. The fake ones are usually something along the lines of "blahhost.com sucks my site has been down for 60 hours". They include no URL or anything.

That sort of post wouldn't last five minutes without being torn apart

I know I was exaggerating. But you get the idea!

For sure, I know what you're saying... but personally I think the moderators (and members in general) do a good job of weeding them out already. Almost too good a job at times! It's just unfortunate that no matter what you do there will always be people who try to abuse the system.

Their function is to test our resolve. Seriously though, the best thing one can do is ignore them. Nothing looks less credible than a poster with 1 post . . . and no replies.

Well here you go right here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=160631 Seems baseless to me. JMO
Maybe it's just timing but... I would also like to mention that in this post here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=152997 (Another post that is bashing the same company. ) These two are not related, but after recent dealings with the creator of http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=152997 I can tell you first hand that MCHOST got a real bad rap for no reason. This guy is a loser.
I have been bashed myself by persons that had no clue at all what the situation was. This kick the dog stuff... huh! Seems to be the prevailing ebb and flow. It needs to change.
Where's the beef?

I replied in the http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=160631 thread and I am a newbie though I've been visiting WHT off an on over the past year. I myself don't post any negative comments unless warranted.

Nothing is perfect... just get used to it.

Posted by centrahost, 07-03-2003, 09:01 AM |
Perfection is not what I'm in search of. I'm just for cleaning up the community a little more. The idea of "getting used to it" never sat well with me regarding anything.

Perhaps you should; you're in public domain, it's moderated to an extent, but with the amount of users this forum generates they're honestly not going to screen signups. It's not like the moderators get paid or anything.

I'm not a reseller or host but I want to throw in my 2 cents here from the "user" perspective.
I think that when a host goes down, for whatever reason, "notifying" your customers should be just about as important as resolving the problem and takes about 15 seconds of your time.
I have had hosts crash but received an e-mail (usually more than one) telling me that the site was down and what was going on. I didn't like being down but knew the host cared enough about me & his customers to let us know what we already knew. I could have born a ton of pain just because of a simple one/two line e-mail. Some hosts don't bother to let you know what's going on until they are back up and "then" you get the full story. Set up a "broadcast" or "group" e-mail for all your customers and you can even create a "ready made" template to send. You can even do this from someone else's system if your's is part of the downed network! People are funny; if they know you are trying to "help" them they will usually walk through hell for you!
Remember, because of the many hosting services that are available, you only have service to sell.
And in closing I would also like to say that I salute most of you and know that you are making about on tenth of what you deserve because of the hard work and long hours you have invested to make us, the users, lives easier!!!

That is spot on!!
I've heard excuses from hosts saying, "well, would you rather us fix the problem, or let you know what is going on?"
What, can't they walk and chew gum at the same time?
Work flat out in fixing the problem and keep your customers up to date with AS MUCH INFORMATION as possible along the way. Failure to do so will result in a thinning out of your customer base.

Something should be done.. I agree.

Reading the title, I thought this thread was going to be a compaint about people being unkind to newbies.
Newbie bashing in either direction is one of WHT's most popular spectator sports. I wouldn't change a thing.

Dear aquavelvaman
I think that open bashing can be very helpful sometimes. For example, I was one of the unhappy MChost clients, because of many problems I had there lately. To cut a long story short, I then looked into this forum and saw the amount of bashing, I got my warning and moved my account to another company.
I also think that in a public forum like this one is, everybody should have the rights to express himself, weather he is newbie or old, and as long as the forum rules are kept, one can even bash if he finds it helpful.
This is called freedom of expression. Those who do not like the idea or are not able to get used to it, should go play somewhere else.
But the real problem is not bashing. The real problem is that the internet now days, is full of people who discovered that hosting can be a way to do quick and easy mony. People that have absolutely no sense of responsibility, nor have they the slightet knowledge how serious business should behave.
My wish is that before "just for cleaning up the community" here as you wish, I would prefer to see a web hosting comunity out there, free of scammers and non serious elements. I would like to see more honest companies, who would not throw us, customers to hell after they have made enough money on our backs, like MChost is doing right now.
I know it is impossible but if bashing in this forum can help, even just a little bit, to get towards this aim, than I am totally in favour of it even when it comes from newbies..

PaySystems does have a bug in their code that does this, I had one that got 8 e-mails every month. They could not fix the problem. Was so bad I had to move to a different billing system.
