Thoughts on SiteCloud?

Has anyone had experience with SiteCloud Hosting? If so, please provide feedback.

Well, seeing as they're advertising 'Unlimited Storage' for $5/mo, I am willing to bet they're overselling resources like crazy just as a regular 'Unlimited' provider would. Cloud or no cloud, resources can/will be limited and despite the easier ability to add additional storage as needed (Depending on their platform, I guess) the marketing of 'Unlimited' products is highly frowned upon as its a service that can not be truly offered. I would ask myself the following: How much storage am I currently using? How much do I think I will need in a year? How much monthly bandwidth am I currently using? How much do I think I will need in a year?ETC This is what I recommend anyone who is seeking anything 'unlimited'. Knowing your ACTUAL needs will only help you find the service most acceptable for you. If you need tons and tons of space, then Cloud hosting IS for you, but you're not going to find a GOOD solution for only $5/mo EDIT: Furthermore, the ACTUAL cost of their month-to-month plan is $10/mo + a $15 setup fee. You don't get their advertised price unless you pay upfront 3-years. No one said this industry didn't have misleading companies.. Last edited by MannDude; 03-01-2011 at 08:06 PM.

I agree with Curtis. Compare their Shared to Cloud VPS. Says it all really.

SiteCloud used to charge for Compute Cycles but then they found a serious flaw in their design (the fact they couldn't deliver it) and got rid of it and became fully unlimited. For higher use customers they're migrating them to their GreenGeeks hosting platform, or VPS. They sent out a mass Email to all their customers in January explaining this.

Last time I looked, the lack of SSL killed it for me. SSL termination was something I expected but it looks like you just get moved off their clustered environment.

Go check out their twitter account. Nothing but downtime and once lasting over 36 hours. Insane daily issues with them. VPS is even worse. No unlimited plan as well. *Recent* changes about no suspension to suspension without notice of CPU usage....they make you upgrade to VPS that is insanely unreliable.

Crowd can be a bit intimidating at first impression, but the experience can be daunting if you end up with unreliable one.

So, it seems that I should have checked the boards before I bought into SiteClouds creative marketing. I would have know that they are nothing but a nightmare before I signed up. I guess the only saving grace is that my account never got activated. After days of calling and waiting and being escalated (supposedly), I finally get through to a customer service rep via phone (not live chat) only for this person to tell me that my account has been escalated to a supervisor. Something I already knew. So the rep leaves to talk with the supervisor. While I am waiting for the supervisor, I get an email saying that my account was rejected and that my money will be refunded to PayPal within 24 hours. After fully reading the message and waiting on hold, the rep comes back to tell me that they are sorry, but they rejected my sign-up. I, of course, am furious. First off, I already know that because I got the email. Secondly, they made me wait 3 days to tell me this. Their reasons are simple, they are worried I am spammer because I used my US billing address, signed up while I am visiting in Hong Kong and my domain on Google Apps has private registration. Now I understand this may look like a special case, but this stuff happens. I was more upset that an "escalated" issue took over 3 days to resolve. Call me silly, but I think an escalated issue gets priority access not "lost in translation" for 3 days. Regardless, I am upset that I lost 3 days waiting for these boneheads, but I am glad that I did not waste my time signing up with them. Using them as your web host would be a big mistake. Especially if you have an "escalated issue" like your website is down. Do yourself a favor, find a different webhost stay away from SiteCloud.

Another vote for Curtis. I have no experience with them. But tend to just go ahead and overlook people that are proposing "unlimited everything" for a couple bucks a month. Sounds like a way to get some unlimited stuff alright ... unlimited pains in your ***, lol.
