On the bottom of the forum, where host companies advertises, when they offer like $60/year host plan, 1) how would the customer know that they will be receiving everything they want in the contract? 2) what if the uptime is not promised and downtime is incredibly long? 3) if the host disappears after like 3 months. Am I screwed? I am looking at their annual plans but scared that I will not be receiving everything they have promised.

Caveat emptor! It's all a matter of research. If it looks like an unrealistic plan/price, then it probably is. It pays to do plenty of research before choosing any host and especially if you are thinking of going for a particularly cheap one. This forum is full of stories of people who made the wrong choice or who didn't research enough ("I've just paid $10 for a years hosting with 100 GB bandwidth and they've disappeared!"). A few tips: ask as many questions as possible in pre salesask them how long they've been in business.do a whois on the domain and see if the creation date matches their supposed start date, if not, ask about it.don't always believe what you read on all hosts webpage. For example, "24/7 support" is easy to write on a webpage, to provide it (ie REAL 24/7 support) is a lot more difficultsee if they have a customer forum where you can judge the general "vibes" of customers (good communication, comments, full of complaints?).when ordering, print copies of the terms and conditions in case the host changes them without telling youalways start with a monthly payment plan and if you really want to go onto an annual payment plan, only do so when you're 110% sure that the host is here to staydo not (repeat: do not!) judge plans by price and price alone... there will always be cheaper plans but to compensate for stupidly cheap costs, cuts need to be made (usually in support, quality of server, network, uptime, or all of the above). 1) how would the customer know that they will be receiving everything they want in the contract? If you have a contract then they are legally obliged to provide the services agreed on. 2) what if the uptime is not promised and downtime is incredibly long? You need to check the terms for their "guarantee". Make sure there is compensation for downtime. Otherwise you may aswell go with a host which does not offer an uptime guarantee. 3) if the host disappears after like 3 months. Am I screwed? Yes. Its not like your going to take action over a $60 hosting account.

In generally its not a good idea to pay yearly for hosting. What if you are not happy with the service? Or find your account is too small? Or like you suggested the host disappears?

and sometimes a guarnteed uptime is not guarnteed as in the Verio reseller agreement there is a disclaimer from guarntees!
