hi,
debating between three good looking plans. i don't understand something though...
i'm new to this and can't figure out how to estimate how much bandwidth i'll use.
i'm going to be hosting numerous sites for friends that up until now have resided on my old dual p233 here in my house on a cable modem line. (so that tells you how little bandwidth i've been using on these)
well...that server is almost dead and i've looked at dathorn, dot5, and enhancedhost.
are there any that i am missing or should invesitgate?
another thing is spam...i don't want these to be on any blocked ip's. how can i tell if any of these hosts are currently blacklisted?
thanks! sorry but those are the only questions i know to ask.
i'm not asking for offers. i have read a few offers, seen a few posts about these companies, and just want to know if i'm missing anything.
thanks,
tony

Hi Tony,
ask them for the IP of the server that you'd be on. This is most likely also the mail server's IP and you can verify if that IP is listed in e.g. SPEWS.
Most hosts do their best to get their IPs out of these lists but not being listed now doesn't guarantee you'll never be listed (for a short while).
Good luck!
p.s. spews.org let's you check IPs and dnsstuff.com as well.

In regards to bandwidth usage, you will need to guesstimate at first. Please note that most control panels have "bandwidth usage" feature built in so that you can monitor your sites bandwidth and avoid any unecessary suspensions.
idologic_dh had a good idea in regards to IP checking.
Kind Regards,

FYI: All of our server IPs are currently not in any of the major spam databases (Spews, Spamcop, etc.). About the only problems we have with the spam databases is other users in our same IP block getting the entire block banned (in which case we had to finally change a few server IPs which resulted in no downtime) and customers mistakenly reporting the wrong information to SpamCop.

Bandwidth estimates can be tricky.
If the average page is 50kB including graphics etc. and your logs show an average of say 500 page views a day, then you are using 25,000 kB or approximately 25MB of transfer a day or 750MB per month. Add 10-20% for spikes and you're looking at approximately 1GB/month.

You will find that most people on the average reseller plan will run out of spave before they come close to using their assigned bandwidth.
